NSW Leader of The Nationals and Shadow Minister for Education Andrew Stoner today said the latest example of union-Labor politics in the playground showed the risk of electing a Rudd Labor Government on Saturday. Mr Stoner said it was inappropriate for a NSW public school, Riverside Girls High School, to show a political message “We are a society, not just an economy”, ahead of the Federal election.
The school’s principal Judith King recently chaired a “Your Rights At Work” union rally in the Prime Minister’s seat of Bennelong with Bob Hawke and Maxine McKew.
Other public schools continue to be subjected to union-funded Labor political flyers, despite NSW Education Minister John Della Bosca and his hand-picked Director General Michael Coutts-Trotter’s repeated vows to rid public schools of partisan politics.
“It comes as no surprise that the State Labor Government has not come good on its many promises to rid our public schools of union funded political material,” Mr Stoner said.
“Students in our schools should not be flooded with political material at any time and especially not before a Federal election.
“By repeatedly attempting to influence the youngest members of our society, NSW Labor and the unions have shown they will stop at nothing to get Kevin Rudd elected.
“These repeat cases of union-funded Labor politics infiltrating our public schools show the risk of having wall-to-wall Labor Governments.
“The unions aren't doing this for no reason - if they are successful then there is no doubt they will collect on the 'IOU' if Kevin Rudd is made Prime Minister. A Rudd Labor Government would be captive to the unions and there will be no checks and balances.”
Mr Stoner said John Della Bosca and Michael Coutts-Trotter must ensure Teachers Federation members do not misuse their positions by displaying union-funded Labor material in schools that will double as polling booths on Saturday.
“The State Labor Government must guarantee public schools are not used for political purposes on Election Day this Saturday,” Mr Stoner said.
“If voters are approached by union members this weekend they should consider the risk of electing a Rudd Labor Government that would be beholden to the unions. “Federal Labor must not be rewarded for the failings of State Labor on Saturday.” |
