Alex was elected at the 2007 election as the Federal Member for Mitchell, an electorate centred on the Hills Shire in Northwest Sydney. Raised in Sydney’s North Western suburbs, Alex lives at Rouse Hill with his wife Rebecca. Alex is currently the youngest member of the Federal Liberal Parliamentary party.
Alex is an advocate for improving the quality of basic infrastructure for Northwest Sydney and also reducing the size and scope of government.
The Mitchell electorate is changing rapidly, with many young families moving into expanding suburbs including Rouse Hill, Kellyville, and Beaumont Hills. Alex is working hard for residents in Mitchell to secure funding for a Northwest railway, and also have the congestion on overburdened roads, including Showground Road and Norwest Boulevard, addressed.
A frequent and forthright speaker on behalf of local issues in the House of Representatives, Alex was recently elected Deputy Chair of the Parliament’s new Joint Select Committee on Cyber Safety. Alex is deeply committed to protecting personal freedom from unnecessary intrusion and censorship. He is staunchly opposed to Labor’s policy to impose a mandatory internet filter on the Australian public.
A firm supporter of the economic legacy of the Howard Government , Alex is determined that residents in the established centres in Mitchell including Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills, and Bella Vista, along with those residents from Northmead, North Rocks and Winston Hills who will be entering Mitchell at the next election following a redistribution, receive the services needed.
Alex has served as an Army Reserve Officer and has worked as a ministerial staffer and retail manager. He has a passion for Australian military history, and is a strong supporter of the Parramatta Eels.
